Tiny fragile ball of life be my only friend tonight When you see it all from here the overview effect appears
Let me take you to the moon let me take you to the stars This is not the end we haven’t travelled far
Starman flying high tonight safe within his satellite Look beyond the atmosphere paper thin no frontier
Let me take you to the moon let me take you to the stars This is not the end we haven’t travelled far Now our world becomes, now our world becomes so clear, so clear

about

Circuit3 (Dublin’s Peter Fitzpatrick) revealed that Technology For The Youth - his third album - will be entering our orbit this summer. The second single from the album, Overview Effect, gives us another scintillating taste of the LP, as well as a glimpse into the creative impulses behind Circuit3’s distinctive blend of retro-futurist pop music.

Overview Effect was one of the first tracks written for the new album. During a livestream improvision using multiple synthesizers in his home studio, Peter instantly hit ‘record’ and ‘save’ upon realising there was a story to be told from this seemingly trivial afternoon of synth noodling. A wiki entry led to story after story of astronauts’ lived experiences viewing our home planet as most of us can only dream of, and the track was born.

Peter expands on the inspiration for the single: “James T. Kirk also went to space in real life. Life imitated art. On his return, William Shatner said ‘I’m so filled with emotion about what just happened ... it’s extraordinary. I hope I never recover, that I can maintain what I feel now. I don’t want to lose it. It’s so much larger than me and life. I am overwhelmed. I had no idea.’ Shatner had experienced the overview effect - a cognitive shift caused by the experience of seeing first-hand the reality of the Earth in space.”

Peter states that the effect brings about profound changes in those who have undergone it, changes others should take on board:

“After observing our planet from space, astronauts feel obliged and responsible for the care of this tiny fragile ball of life shielded only by a paper-thin atmosphere. The cool rich kids are going to space. It’s all the rage. Maybe we should protect what’s left of this planet before playing space tourists? The universe isn’t going anywhere. The Earth certainly is. Our house is on fire. Won’t someone please tell the cool rich kids?”

The track also finds Peter collaborating with another vocalist - Alessia Turcato. He adds: “For me, the wonderful backing vocals on Overview Effect - provided by the incredibly talented Italian singer Alessia Turcato - really emphasise the human side of Circuit3’s electronic heart.”

The five-track Overview Effect single features a radio edit of the song and exclusive remixes by KeX/1 (the new remix project from Lloyd Price of The Frixion) and fellow AnalogueTrash labelmates Vieon. It also includes the non-album track, Ariane 5 (named after the European Space Agency space rocket), and an extended Dub Version of the title track.

Overview Effect is released on the 8th of June and will be available to download and stream on all major digital platforms. Technology For The Youth will be released on the 15th of July in digital, vinyl, and CD formats.
